News from Get Well UK

Get Well UK have spent a lot of the past year working with Northern Ireland�s Department of Health and Social Services, delivering their Complementary and Alternative Medicine Pilot Project. 16 of Northern Ireland�s finest practitioners provided free therapies to well over 700 NHS patients who were referred by their GP or prescribing nurse. It�s safe to say there has been a very positive impact. As ever, there�s still a lot to be done, and that�s where you come in.

Department of Health: �73m Investment Fund for Social Enterprises

Care Services Minister Ivan Lewis has announced the opening of a �73m Social enterprise Investment Fund for health and social care. Applications for money can now be made to start to set up and build social enterprises that will provide services that will benefit local communities, as they will be targeted to meet their specific needs.

Health update

Lucy Findlay will present to all the Directors of providers of health care services for South West Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). This will be followed by an event in the autumn for commissioners of health care services, where commissioners can talk to successful case studies from around the country to discuss and resolve issues on the supply and demand side. These events are being staged by a partnership including RISE, the Strategic Health Authority and the Care Services Improvement Partnership.

Wanted social enterprises in children's services

The Social Enterprise Coalition is keen to hear about examples of social enterprises successfully delivering children's services to inform its work in this area. The examples could come from a wide range of services, including foster care, residential homes, extended schools, childcare providers, play providers, and organisations providing services for disabled children.
